Robots.txt & Sitemap Validator

Check whether search engines can discover your XML sitemap and spot common crawl-control or sitemap syntax problems.

Live public-file check

Website to check

01 / INPUT

We will check the root robots.txt file and sitemap discovery.

Optional. Leave blank to use Sitemap directives in robots.txt, then /sitemap.xml as a fallback.

The check fetches public text and XML files only. Private and local network addresses are blocked.

Validation report

02 / RESULTS

Your report will appear here

Enter a website and run the validator to check its crawl-control files.

What is checked

  • HTTP status and redirects for robots.txt and sitemap files.
  • User-agent groups, Sitemap directives and site-wide blocking.
  • XML sitemap root type, namespace, location count and duplicates.
  • Invalid locations and URLs pointing to another host.

What is not checked

The validator does not crawl every sitemap URL, render pages, assess URL quality or confirm whether Google has indexed a page. Large sitemap files are checked up to the first 1 MB.
